PFOS linked with thyroid cancer

Our team has discovered a link between per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) substances and an increased risk for thyroid cancer. PFAS, ‘forever chemicals’, are a large, complex group of synthetic chemicals that can migrate into the soil, water and air, and due to the strong carbon-fluorine bond these chemicals have, they do not degrade easily in the environment. These forever chemicals been used in consumer products around the world since the 1940s that have been used to make nonstick cookware, water-repellent clothing, stain-resistant fabrics, products that resist grease, water, and oil, and more.
